Casey Affleck ‘One’ with noir drama

February 6th, 2008

Casey Affleck is attached to star in period noir drama “The Kind One,” based on the just-published novel by Tom Epperson.

Film will reunite Affleck with “Gone Baby Gone” producer Sean Bailey, who is producing through his new Disney-based Idealogyshingle.

Story, set in the 1930s Los Angeles, centers on an amnesiac (Affleck) who finds himself working for a mobster — a sadistic killer given the nickname “the Kind One” — and falling in love with the thug’s girlfriend.

Epperson will adapt his novel when the WGA strike is over.

Last year saw Affleck star in “Gone Baby Gone,” and he had a supporting turn in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” receiving an Oscar nomination for the latter.

Epperson frequent collaborates with his boyhood friend Billy Bob Thornton. They co-wrote the screenplays for “One False Move,” “A Family Thing” and “The Gift.” “The Kind One,” which marks his literary debut, was published Jan. 22 by Five Star.

Casey Affleck: Fatherhood Is ‘Transformative’

February 5th, 2008

Casey Affleck is on a hot streak – scoring a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for his role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and starring in the critically acclaimed Gone Baby Gone.

But his most rewarding role to date? Playing dad to his two young sons.

“[Being a parent] sort of changed everything,” the 32-year-old actor (little brother to Ben Affleck), told reporters at Monday’s 80th annual Academy Awards Nominees luncheon. “It’s far and away the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Affleck’s wife, Summer Phoenix, gave birth to son Indiana, 3, in 2004, and to another son, whose name has yet to be announced, in January.

“It’s been transformative,” he said. When Phoenix was first pregnant, he added, “I remember… getting a lot of advice from people that I really trusted and… after I had the kid, thinking why didn’t anyone tell me this is the way it was going to be?”

Explaining parenthood is “a little bit like trying to describe to somebody… what life is like on another planet, in another galaxy,” Affleck said. “Until you’re sort of there in that other galaxy, then you’ll never really know what it’s like.”

After his recent professional success, Affleck said he’s been enjoying some quiet time at home with his little ones.

“I love being around the house and being with the kids everyday,” he said. “Being an actor means that, if you’re successful anyway, you can kind of work for three or four months out of the year and then you’re home a lot of the time.”

People says the baby was born in January but we have conflicting reports.

“At that time in the morning, my kids have to be jumping on my face to wake me up ,” said a cool and collected Casey Affleck, about receiving his nomination for best supporting actor for “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” “In truth – it’s a great honor to be included in a group with people like Tom and Javier and Hal but I’m taking it all with a grain of salt because there are some really good performances this year and I think there’s a bit of luck involved.” As for the ongoing writers strike and its dampening effect on this year’s award season, Affleck said he has no room for disappointment of any kind. “When I read the script for this role I thought ‘Well if I can get this part and work with people like Brad Pitt and others that were in the film I won’t ask for anything else,” said Affleck. “People responding really well to it was just icing on the cake.”
